Inspired by Nature

Nature is a great source of inspiration to me, and when looking at certain elements there are a number of different iterations. When looking to interpret these the start of an idea can be very different to the end result.

For example, I noticed some great patterns on the surface of the water when out with the dogs on our recent holiday in Cornwall. The patterns that were created made me want to explore these through painting.

The great thing about exploring through different mediums is that you do not have to be tied to replicating the original source, it is a point of inspiration that can then grow and develop over time.

The next step for me was to test some techniques to see how I could capture the texture that I had interpreted from the surface of the water into metal. This resulted in created a series of great textures that I will explore further as to where they will go next.

The patterns that the sun has created literally dance on the surface

The patterns were created by etching copper and then adding Liver of sulphur to accentuate the raised surface

The patterns was created by using wax and the lost cast process with bronze

It has been great to explore the options and how I can push the boundaries of working with different processes such as etching, casting and coloration through chemical patination to see where it takes me.
